Mission Statement: The pursuit of social justice in our community must proceed through an awareness of its importance in Islam. We must remember Islam's role in ending slavery and forbidding the burying alive of newborn girls in Bedouin Arab society. We have to keep in mind that zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and that a just judge will be one of the seven kinds of people under the shade of Allah on judgment day. With this in mind we can advocate for social justice as a way of practicing our religion. As global students in a prestigious university, we are in a privileged position to make impactful changes regarding issues worldwide. The process starts with educating ourselves about what is happening in the world around us and creating an atmosphere of communal solidarity and activism – one that will motivate us to tackle pertinent issues today such as still existing racial inequalities, Islamophobia, the National Defense Authorization Act, dictatorships and apartheids around the world, and so on.
