Mohammed
Tayssir Safi is the hired Muslim Chaplain at the University of Michigan who is
here to serve all Muslims on campus. A 2002 graduate of Ann Arbor’s Pioneer
High School and a Michigan alumnus (he double majored in Political Science and
MENAS—Middle Eastern and North African Studies), Chaplain Tayssir has academic
experience in Arabic, Islamic Sciences, Linguistics, and much more. He worked
as a mosque’s Youth Director in Canton, Michigan, prior to accepting the
chaplaincy post. In addition to liaising with the university’s administration
and religious leaders in the local community, he holds office hours every week.
During office hours and while hanging out at MSA events, he’s available to
provide counseling and answer questions about a large assortment of topics,
ranging from religious practices to available courses and majors at Michigan.
He is currently a Graduate student at the U and was recipient of last year’s
"Student of the Year" award. Chaplain Tayssir has been a huge resource and
asset to our growing community, and we are grateful for all that he does.
